Lime breathable mortar - class M10
Have a question? Call +36 70 400 2040 or write to hello@masterworks.hu.
Is your old brick or stone wall cracked or weakened? Rigid cement mortar won’t fix it. It traps moisture and further stresses the wall. The solution is pure NHL 3.5 lime, M10 class. Strong and breathable. You can also create reinforced plaster strengthening with Rinforzo ARV 100 mesh. For strengthening damaged walls and vaults. This is Kerakoll Biocalce Muratura Fino.
| Binder | NHL 3.5 pure natural hydraulic lime |
|---|---|
| Strength class | M10 (100 kg/cm²) |
| Grain size | 0 – 1.5 mm |
| Water vapor diffusion (μ) | ≥ 15 ≤ 35 |
| Reinforcement | With Rinforzo ARV 100 mesh |
| Material requirement | ≈ 1.7 kg/dm³ |
| Packaging | 25 kg bag |
Substrates / masonry units: Hollow and solid brick, tuff, natural stone, and mixed masonry — both load-bearing and infill masonry. Monument and historic building restoration.
Functions: Construction and restoration of breathable masonry; rubble infill; collaborative, reinforced plaster strengthening of damaged walls and masonry vaults with Rinforzo ARV 100 glass-aramid mesh; sandwich-type reinforced plasters.
Areas: Exterior and interior load-bearing and infill masonry — where greater strength, reinforcement, or a healthy, breathable structure is the goal (Edilizia del Benessere).
Not suitable:
Biocalce Muratura Fino is the layer for wall construction and reinforcement. The full build-up of a breathable wall from structure to finished surface:
| Layer | Product | Role |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Masonry / reinforcement | Biocalce Muratura Fino (this product) | M10 lime bedding, wall construction and reinforced reinforcement |
| 2. Base coat | Biocalce Rinzaffo | adhesion promoter under the plaster |
| 3. Base plaster | Biocalce Intonaco | breathable plaster layer |
| 4. Fine plaster | Intonachino Fino / Granello | smooth or grainy, paintable surface |
| 5. Surface | breathable paint or noble plaster | final, breathable, colored surface |
Reinforced plaster reinforcement (ARV 100 system):
Which Biocalce masonry mortar do you need?
How can you reinforce a cracked, weakened old wall?
Reinforced with reinforced plaster. You embed an alkali-resistant mesh into a ~10 mm mortar layer, then comes the second layer. Muratura Fino M10 lime mortar is for this — with ARV 100 mesh, it provides a breathable reinforcing layer.
What is reinforced plaster?
Reinforced plaster is a mortar layer strengthened with mesh that holds the weakened wall together. You embed the Rinforzo ARV 100 mesh fresh into the first ~10 mm layer. Then comes the second ~10 mm — total thickness ≈ 2 cm.
What does the M10 class mean?
M10 is the strength class — 100 kg/cm² compressive strength, the strongest in the line. It provides a solid base for load-bearing masonry and reinforcement. For general bedding, M5 Muratura is sufficient.
Muratura or Muratura Fino — which one do I need?
Muratura M5 is coarser (0–2.5 mm) — for general bedding and filling. Muratura Fino M10 is finer (0–1.5 mm), stronger. For load-bearing masonry and reinforced plaster strengthening, use Fino.
Does the wall remain breathable after reinforcement?
Yes. Pure NHL 3.5 lime, with high vapor permeability (μ ≥ 15 ≤ 35), without cement. The wall dries freely; the low chloride content (≤ 0.004% Cl) protects the old wall.
Is it good for monument and vault restoration?
Yes. It consists of traditional, natural ingredients — lime, Carrara marble, dolomite limestone. It can also be used for reinforced strengthening: for vaults and damaged masonry restoration.
How much material and water do I need?
From a 25 kg bag, you get about 14.7 liters of fresh mortar, with about 4.8 liters of mixing water. The amount depends on the joint and masonry unit. For reinforced plaster, the thickness is about 10 mm × 2 layers.
When should I NOT use it?
Do not use on contaminated, dusty, loose, or efflorescent substrates — clean them first. If M5 is sufficient (general bedding, filling), Muratura is more economical. For grouting, use Pietra.
Can I do it myself?
Plain masonry with a trowel works like traditional mortar. However, reinforced plastering is a structural intervention — it requires planning and expertise. We also carry out the complete system installation.

Substrate preparation: Clean, solid, debris-, dust-, and mold-free masonry. Remove whitewash, fine plaster, and efflorescence from old walls; remove weak bedding mortar. Moisten the substrate and bricks before application.
Mixing: ≈ 4.8 l clean water / 25 kg bag, mix until lump-free. Do not add cement.
Application (masonry): Use a trowel to bed the mortar, place the masonry unit, fill the joint up to the outer edge of the brick, and scrape off the excess.
Reinforced plaster (ARV 100): First layer ≈ 10 mm; embed the alkali-resistant Rinforzo ARV 100 mesh while fresh; then apply the second layer ≈ 10 mm (total ≈ 2 cm).
Conditions: +5 °C – +35 °C; only load load-bearing walls after full curing. Clean tools fresh with water.

Natural lime plasters and wall drying system
Natural hydraulic lime (NHL 3.5, EN 459-1) fired from pure, marly limestone at ~800–1000 °C without clay or cement. Breathable plasters compatible with old masonry, from primer to decorative plaster.
The advantage of breathable NHL 3.5
The wall can dry because lime allows water vapor to pass through — much more openly than cement (μ ≈ 6 compared to cement’s ≈ 20), so moisture does not get trapped inside. It is salt-resistant, flexible, and does not damage the old wall when removed — making it the right material for old and historic walls. On its dry, alkaline surface, mold also finds it harder to settle.
For damp, saltpetre-affected walls
The WTA-certified, high porosity (≥ 40%) restoration plaster binds crystallizing salt in its pores and allows moisture to escape. It keeps the surface dry on damp, saltpetre-affected walls and plinths — permanently.
In the increasingly important world of sustainable building materials and eco-friendly practices, Kerakoll plays a pioneering role in the industry.
Founded in 1968, the Italian company has become a global leader in the production of adhesives, sealants, and other building materials, while remaining committed to environmental protection.
