Water always finds the weak spot. Not immediately – but consistently, patiently, until it does. Behind the bathroom wall, the terrace substrate, at roof connections: the real damage never occurs where the water first appears, but where it migrates to.
Three technologies cover different application needs. Brushable cement-based membranes: they form a solid, flexible waterproofing layer – suitable for bathroom, balcony, and terrace use, easy to apply, and well compatible with tiling. Brushable hybrid and resin-based membranes: offer greater flexibility for surfaces prone to building movement; the best hybrid membranes already provide certified performance according to EN 14891 in a single layer. Prefabricated sheet membranes: provide immediate and reliable waterproofing on roof surfaces where applying brushable layers is not practical.
The three most typical applications have different requirements. Bathroom and shower: at wall and floor joints, and shower tray edges, the membrane alone is not enough – edge-forming tape is necessary, otherwise water will enter at the corner. Terrace and balcony: for outdoor use, the membrane must be UV-resistant and frost-proof; sealing around drains and handling expansion joints are the most critical points here. Roof and flat roof: around penetrations – gutters, chimneys, vents – the joint between the membrane and fastening system is the most common failure point of the system. In all three cases, the quality of the joints determines whether the system holds.
A waterproofing system is only as good as the quality of its joints. Corner formation, sealing around drains, edge-forming tape: if these are missing, water enters where the material ends. Masterworks supplies complete systems – membrane, tape, corners, drains, penetrations – with designed compatibility.
