Indoor painting almost never stops at the wall. Door frames, window sashes, radiators, kitchen wooden cabinet fronts, metal fittings — all of these require paint, but with different types and performance characteristics. Wall paint is not suitable for this: it wears off, swells due to condensation on the window frame, and the surface layer quickly peels off in the contact zones of the door frame.
Enamel paint is a hard-drying, mechanically resistant, washable indoor coating for wood and metal surfaces. The term "enamel" refers to its hard, smooth surface similar to glass enamel — it is not real enamel but a high-strength alkyd- or acrylic-alkyd-based coating. It is washable, abrasion-resistant, and moisture-resistant, which means it meets much higher mechanical requirements than wall paint.
Some enamel paint systems can be ordered from the same palette as indoor wall paints and complementary materials. If the wall and door frame share a shade from the same color system, the entire interior can be uniformly coordinated — either in a harmonizing or contrasting solution.
Water-based enamel paint dries faster, is almost odorless, and tools can be cleaned with water — this is the typical material for indoor renovation. Its gloss is usually satin or semi-matte, with a smooth and washable surface. Solvent-based (alkyd) enamel paint dries harder and glossier, with better mechanical resistance and moisture tolerance — this is the traditional choice for radiators, heavily used doors, and outdoor wooden elements. Its drawbacks are longer drying time, strong odor, and more difficult tool cleaning. Today, the acrylic-based waterborne version is the default for indoor use; solvent-based paint is justified where wear or moisture exposure demands it.
On wood surfaces, sanding, dust removal, and a cinnamon-based primer (wood primer) are required for good adhesion and even color development. On metal surfaces, degreasing and metal primer (anti-rust primer) are mandatory. Without primer, enamel paint does not adhere properly and wears off sooner.
