Flexible floor coverings — vinyl, LVT, PVC, linoleum, textile carpet — are fixed using different principles than ceramic or stone coverings. The flexible material moves: it expands and contracts with temperature changes and deforms under pressure load. The adhesive must follow this movement, not resist it — therefore, hard, rigid adhesives cannot be used for these.
Flexible flooring adhesive is a flexible, pressure-sensitive, or chemically bonding adhesive that absorbs the movement difference between the covering and the substrate while providing a stable bond. The composition — acrylic, polyurethane, SMP, or dispersion-based — depends on the type of covering and the level of stress.
Vinyl and LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile): Heat-sensitive, dimensionally variable material. Pressure-sensitive acrylic dispersion adhesive or two-component PU adhesive, depending on the substrate and traffic.
PVC sheet flooring: Medium-viscosity, fast-bonding adhesive applied over large areas. Ventilated application is required for solvent-based types.
Linoleum: Natural, relatively heavy material that requires a strong bond to the substrate. Special linoleum adhesive that forms a stable bond despite the natural oil content.
Textile carpet: Pressure-sensitive adhesive variant that remains removable in case of carpet replacement.
Flexible flooring adhesive provides a durable bond only on an even, solid, dry, and dust-free substrate. On uneven substrates, the flexible covering forms voids over depressions, causing long-term detachment. Substrate preparation — leveling, priming — cannot be skipped.
In wet or humid rooms — commercial kitchens, changing rooms, gyms — moisture-resistant certified adhesive is required. Standard acrylic adhesives lose their bonding strength under moisture exposure.
