Wood flooring is one of the most sought-after indoor floor coverings due to its natural appearance, pleasant thermal sensation, and long lifespan. However, choosing wood flooring is not just an aesthetic decision — the type of wood, layer structure, fixing method, and coating together determine the actual value of the floor.
Solid wood (massive) parquet: A plank made from a single wood species, usually 18–22 mm thick. It can be sanded and refinished multiple times — its lifespan can be several decades. Disadvantage: it reacts strongly to humidity changes and is only partially compatible with underfloor heating.
Engineered parquet: A board made of cross-glued wood layers, with a top layer of hardwood veneer or thin solid wood laminate. It is more dimensionally stable against humidity changes and better compatible with underfloor heating. The extent to which it can be sanded depends on the thickness of the top layer.
Industrial parquet: Small-sized (usually 480×90 mm), high-strength blocks assembled in patterns. A traditional wood flooring solution for heavily trafficked areas — offices, commercial spaces.
Glued: Parquet fixed to the substrate with parquet adhesive. Stable, can be combined with sound and thermal insulation, compatible with underfloor heating.
Floating: Parquet not fixed to the substrate, assembled only with click or glued joints. Quick installation but not suitable for all substrates and results in higher footstep noise.
Nailed: Traditional method for solid wood parquet where the plank is mechanically fixed.
Wood flooring is available in lacquered, oiled, or resin-coated versions. The chosen coating determines maintenance needs and the possibility of renovation.
