The baseboard is the element that manages the junction between the floor and the wall: it covers the expansion gap, the edge of the flooring, and the floor-wall connection, while aesthetically organizing this area. It is not just decorative — it also provides protection against dirt, moisture, and mechanical impacts that accumulate at the floor edge and the bottom of the wall.
The screed and the floor covering must be separated from the walls: free space is needed along the walls to allow for thermal expansion and contraction movements. This "movement gap" — usually 8–10 mm — falls under the baseboard. So the baseboard is not just an aesthetic element: together with the expansion gap, it is part of the flooring system’s movement management.
Expansion baseboard at the edge of the screed: a flexible material strip or profile placed along the walls before pouring the screed, which absorbs the screed’s shrinkage and thermal expansion movements.
Baseboards can be fixed to the wall with adhesive, screws, or a click fastening system. Baseboards fixed to the floor cannot be used where the floor moves — in such cases, floor movement causes the baseboard to slide.
Browse our baseboards or request advice to select the baseboard that suits your flooring and space design.
