Has the screed cracked? Dries quickly on top but lacks strength underneath. Planogel Ultra remains hard throughout — CT-C35-F7, 35 N/mm². Applied in 1–30 mm layers, ready for ceramic tiles in 4 hours. This is Kerakoll Planogel Ultra.

  • Not sure how uneven the substrate is: one product for 1–30 mm — from thin skim coat to 3 cm level difference
  • Ceramic in 4 hours: project progresses in one day — walkable in 3 hours, ready for covering in 4 hours
  • For restaurants, shops: does not compress or crack — CT-C35-F7 class, 35 N/mm² compressive strength

Frequently asked questions

Why does the screed crack?
Dries quickly on top but weak strength underneath — or the substrate is not primed. CT-C35-F7 class With Kerakoll Planogel Ultra leveling compound, you get 35 N/mm² compressive strength if the primer is also suitable.

Which is the best self-leveling screed?
It’s the one that withstands traffic and allows ceramic tiles to be installed quickly. The Kerakoll Planogel Ultra CT-C35-F7 class (most products work between C20–C30), can be applied in layers of 1–30 mm and is ready for ceramic tiles after 4 hours.

What is Gel-Technology?
Kerakoll technology that varies the mix’s rheology. When applying slowly with a trowel, the mix is thicker — you control the thickness. When applied quickly, it flows and fills the surface. Same bag, the technique controls the behavior.

What is the difference between Planogel Rheo and Planogel Ultra?
Same layer range (1–30 mm) and 4-hour ceramic walkability. Ultra is stronger: CT-C35-F7 compared to Rheo’s C30-F7 class. Ultra is recommended for busy areas and commercial floors.

Is primer needed?
Every substrate — cement and anhydrite screed, concrete, ceramic, wood, metal, fiber-reinforced panel — receives Active Prime Fix or Active Prime Grip primer. Without primer, the leveling compound can detach.

How many m² does a 25 kg bag of Planogel Ultra cover?
Material requirement is 1.6 kg/m² per mm of layer. For 5 mm layer ≈ 3 m², for 10 mm ≈ 1.5 m², for 1 mm skim coat ≈ 15.6 m².

Can self-leveling compound be used over underfloor heating?
Yes — suitable over both wet and electric systems. Minimum 5 mm layer thickness over heating elements, bonded to a rigid substrate prepared with primer. Never as a self-supporting or floating layer.

What does the CT-C35-F7 class mean?
Classification according to EN 13813: C35 = 35 N/mm² compressive strength after 28 days, F7 = 7 N/mm² flexural strength. Most self-leveling products are C20–C30 class — C35 is a higher category.

When NOT to use it?
Do not use outdoors — not a frost-resistant system. Do not use in constantly wet areas (pool, industrial washer) — another Kerakoll solution is required. It also does not work as a floating layer or self-supporting on raw slabs.

Is Kerakoll expensive? Is it worth it?
Not more expensive in the long run — you lay it once, it reaches 35 N/mm² strength after 28 days, does not crack, no repairs needed. Manufactured by Kerakoll Sassuolo since 1968 — EC1 Plus VOC, A+ air quality, EPD certification.

The Kerakoll self-leveling compound system

Planogel Ultra does not work alone. Without the proper primer, even the best leveling compound can detach.

Layer Product Function Material requirement
1 Primer* Surface preparation, adhesion according to substrate
2 Planogel Ultra Self-leveling compound 1.6 kg/m²/mm
3 Adhesive (Kerakoll) Under covering according to covering
4 Covering Tile, parquet, vinyl, stone --

*Primer: every substrate (cement and anhydrite screed, concrete, ceramic, wood, metal, fiber-reinforced panel) receives Active Prime Fix or Active Prime Grip primer. The choice and dilution depend on the substrate — details on the primer product page.

Areas of application

Substrate preparation: Flat, cured, intact, dry surface. Do not work with it if there is capillary moisture. Remove old adhesive, paint, and cement residues mechanically. Repair cracks; the substrate must undergo hygrometric shrinkage. Priming is mandatory — every substrate Active Prime Fix or Active Prime Grip primer is applied, diluted depending on the substrate.

Mixing (25 kg bag): 4.75–5.75 l of clean water, according to density requirements. Mix with a slow-speed electric mixer until lump-free. After 2 minutes of standing, briefly mix again. Too much water weakens strength and causes cracking.

Application: Spread with a smooth trowel or spreader knife. Pumping machine is fastest for large surfaces. Press into the substrate for maximum adhesion. Remove air bubbles with a spiked roller (thin layer) or a round batten (thick layer).

Second layer: Apply the Active Prime Fix adhesion promoter after 3 hours (≈ +23°C), then apply the next layer. If the time is exceeded, wait 5–7 days, then apply Active Prime Fix and continue.

For underfloor heating: Suitable for both water and electric systems. Minimum 5 mm layer thickness above heating elements. Bonded to the substrate — never as a self-supporting or floating layer. Under heating elements, the substrate must be rigid and primed (cement or anhydrite screed, dry construction panel, ceramic). For commissioning protocol: Kerakoll Global Service.

Temperature: +5 °C – +30 °C. Low temperature and high humidity prolong drying. Ventilate during work, protect the floor level from drafts.

Movement joints: Maintain existing expansion and perimeter joints. Divide large surfaces into fields ≤ 100 m², max. 10 m side length. Use foam strip at the perimeter — no rigid connection to the wall.

Cleaning: Clean tools with water while fresh. Once set, leveling compound can only be removed mechanically.

HIGH-TECH SELF-LEVELING FLOOR SCREEDS

Kerakoll has been developing high-end self-leveling underlayments for decades. Gel-Technology created a new category: self-leveling underlayment gel with variable rheology.

The first gel, Planogel Rheo, can be controlled by the movement of the trowel — thickens slowly, flows quickly. Built on the same principle is Planogel Ultra, with higher CT-C35-F7 strength, for busy commercial and industrial floors. Alongside them are three specialists from the Flowtech family: Easy for thin layers under ceramics, Pro for absorbent substrates, and Plus for flexible coverings.
