GeoSteel is Kerakoll's steel reinforcement system designed for structural strengthening and building stabilization tasks. It consists of reinforcing elements made of high-strength steel fibers or steel mesh combined with a compatible cement-based matrix. Its purpose is to increase the load-bearing capacity of old, weakened, or seismically stressed structures with minimal intervention but with engineering-verified performance.
The GeoSteel system is made of high tensile strength steel fibers and woven steel mesh embedded into a compatible cement-based or geopolymer matrix applied to the substrate. The steel fiber mesh and the matrix work together: the fibers take the tensile forces, and the matrix transfers the load to the substrate. The result is a thin but exceptionally high-performance structural reinforcement layer.
Seismic reinforcement of masonry: To improve the seismic performance of old brick, stone masonry, and adobe structures where the building’s load-bearing capacity needs to be strengthened against potential earthquake loads. The GeoSteel system can be applied to both sides of the wall or only one side.
Structural reinforcement of concrete and reinforced concrete: For strengthening ring beams, beams, columns, and slabs where the existing reinforcement is supplemented or replaced—typically in cases of change of building use, increased loads, or carbonated, damaged reinforced concrete.
Reinforcement of arches, vaults, and old structural elements: Preservation and strengthening of load-bearing elements in historic buildings where minimal intervention and reversibility are required.
Traditional reinforced concrete strengthening increases the mass and thickness of the structure and is often not feasible due to limited space or heritage protection restrictions. The GeoSteel layer thickness is only a few millimeters—the added load is minimal, surface requirements are low, and the system is reversible in many cases.
Using the GeoSteel system requires structural design: the layout of the mesh, number of layers, and matrix thickness are determined by the load-bearing requirements of the structure to be reinforced. Installation is a specialized task—the substrate preparation, matrix mixing ratio, and method of embedding the mesh are precisely defined.
