Most connections can be sealed with silicone, acrylic, or MS polymer adhesive-sealant. However, there are locations and joints where these materials are not sufficient: the stress — chemical exposure, fire impact, continuous water pressure, or extreme temperature — exceeds the performance limits of standard sealants.
At swimming pool joints, continuous water exposure, chloride, and chemical stress prematurely damage standard silicones — chlorine-resistant, PU, or specially modified silicone sealants are required. For fire-resistant joints, intumescent sealants expand under fire exposure and close the opening — this is a requirement for building services and structural fire protection. For chemically stressed industrial joints in laboratories, chemical plants, and food industry areas, epoxy-based grout-sealants and special polysulfide sealants can be used. For high-temperature joints such as stoves, fireplaces, and industrial furnaces, silicate or inorganic-based heat-resistant sealants are necessary.
The three main questions are: what chemical environment is the sealant exposed to (water, chemicals, acids)? What temperature range does it operate in? Is there a fire protection requirement? Based on these, the material composition and certification class can be clearly determined.
Browse our special sealants or request advice to select the special sealant material suitable for the joint’s stress conditions.
The Kerakoll Color Collection is an integrated project that includes innovative materials - resin, cement, handcrafted wood, microcoatings, paints, and glazes - coordinated on a single color palette.
