Fiber-reinforced finishing product for ETICS use
Is your insulated façade dented or full of holes after hail? The thin smoothing layer can easily break through, allowing water to reach the insulation. This fiber-reinforced smoothing mortar withstands hail up to Class HIR 4. Its impact resistance has been tested up to 60 joules. It can also be used to repair damaged systems. This is Kerakoll Klima HP.

What makes an insulated (dryvit) facade hail-resistant?
It comes from the reinforced smoothing layer with mesh. Klima HP is a fiber-reinforced mortar with alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh embedded in the layer. Its hail resistance has been tested up to HIR 4.
What do HIR 4 and 60 joules mean?
HIR is the hail resistance class (Swiss VKF N° 08 test). Klima HP has been tested up to HIR 4. The 60 J refers to impact resistance according to UNI EN 13497 — important on the plinth.
Can a damaged, hail-damaged facade be repaired with it?
Yes, it was also designed for repairing existing EPS and mineral wool systems. During repairs, it must be applied by hand, according to the KlimaExpert maintenance and repair manual. After drying, a decorative coating can be applied.
How much smoothing compound is needed per m²?
≈ 1.1 kg/m² per millimetre. One 25 kg bag is enough for ≈ 22 m² at 1 mm. Max. 3 mm per layer, max. 10 mm in total, with the mesh embedded in the outer third.
How should mesh be applied to an insulated facade?
With alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh suitable for ETICS: embed it in the first, still-fresh layer, and the second layer must cover it completely. For thicker applications, several layers are required (max. 3 mm per layer); the mesh is placed in the outer third of the total thickness.
When can the decorative coating be applied, and how long must it be protected?
The decorative coating can be applied after the smoothing layer has dried completely. The finished surface must be protected from rain for at least 48 hours. During application and until it has dried, it must also be protected from direct sunlight by shading the scaffolding.
Can it be purchased separately?
Yes. This also applies when repairing only a damaged section of the facade or when a stronger layer is needed for the plinth. The other system components should be selected according to the Klimaexpert specifications.
Is it also suitable for bonding insulation boards?
No, Klima HP is only a smoothing layer. The products in the “Which ETICS adhesive and smoothing compound do I need?” table above are intended for bonding the boards.
When should I not use it?
On gypsum or gypsum-plastered walls, wood, metal, or damp substrates. It is not suitable for bonding tiles either. Do not apply below +5 °C or above +30 °C.
Can I apply it myself?
A product intended for professionals. It requires scaffolding, sun shading, and experience in embedding reinforcement mesh. We also carry out facade work.

Substrate preparation: The insulation boards must be installed without gaps: gaps larger than 5 mm must be filled with strips of the same board, while gaps of 5 mm or less must be filled with polyurethane foam. The surface must be level: on EPS (PU), irregularities must be removed by light sanding and the dust removed; on mineral wool, use a layer of Klima HP levelling compound. The boards must be installed in a staggered pattern, toothed at the corners, with continuous insulation at the corners of openings. The number and placement of the anchors must be determined by the designer.
Mixing: 25 kg of powder with approximately 7-7.5 l of water. Pour the water into a clean container first, then gradually add the powder - using a horizontal-axis mixer or in a bucket, by hand or with a low-speed mixer, until a lump-free mortar is obtained. Use water only; do not add latex or any other additive.
Application: Apply an even first layer to the boards using a smooth trowel. While the layer is still wet, embed ETICS mesh by pressing it in with a trowel. After drying, the second layer must completely cover the mesh. Maximum 3 mm per layer, maximum 10 mm in total; the mesh must be positioned in the outer third of the total thickness. It can also be applied by machine spraying with mesh. When repairing a damaged system, apply by hand in accordance with the KlimaExpert maintenance and repair manual.
Protection: During application, protect the material from direct sunlight by shading the scaffolding until it has dried. Protect the finished surface from rain for at least 48 hours.
Conditions: Between +5 °C and +30 °C; do not apply to damp substrates.
