Steel DryFix is Kerakoll's dry mechanical fastening system for fixing stone and ceramic cladding on facades. Instead of adhesive mortar, it uses steel support elements with mechanical connections — this method allows for the secure, durable fixing of large and heavy facade panels where traditional adhesive technology is unsuitable or unfeasible.
The Steel DryFix system consists of stainless steel fastening elements — support rails, brackets, and fixing clips — which mechanically connect to the substrate (concrete, masonry, steel framework) and secure the facade panel without mortar at precisely defined points. An air gap forms between the panel and the substrate — following the principle of ventilated facades.
Natural stone panels: For mechanical fixing of granite, limestone, sandstone, and slate facade panels where the weight and size of the stone cannot be safely secured with mortar adhesive.
Large-format ceramic and porcelain facade panels: For panel sizes over 60×60 cm — where the combination of adhesive and wind load approaches the load limit of traditional adhesive systems.
Thicker facade cladding: Where the distance between substrate and cladding is greater than usual, or where the layer structure requires more precise panel positioning.
Fastening without adhesive mortar allows panels that show cracks or need replacement to be removed and reinstalled without dismantling the entire facade. This is a significant advantage in terms of renewability and long-term maintenance.
The ventilated layer behind the facade removes moisture accumulation, reducing cladding swelling caused by freeze-thaw cycles and moisture load on the underlying masonry.
Using the Steel DryFix system requires structural and facade design work: the arrangement of support elements, the number of connection points, and the size of steel components are determined based on panel size, panel weight, and wind load class. Installation is a specialized trade task.
