Is your visible brick or stone wall cracking? The usual solution drills through the wall — leaving visible marks. There is a thinner way. A 6 mm stainless rod that you place in the mortar joint. The joint closes back, the wall’s appearance remains. Shear reinforcement, crack filling, joint strengthening — all with a single rod. This is the Kerakoll Steel Dryfast 6.

• Cracked, visible brick or stone wall: can be reinforced without drilling — the 6 mm rod lies in the mortar joint, preserving the wall’s appearance
• Separated, split wall section: ties back and holds the crack — shear and bending reinforcement along the joints
• Damaged lintel, architrave: the rod placed in the joint reinforces it — the cracked section works together again

Steel Dryfast 6 or 8 / 10 / 12 — which one do you need?

The same stainless steel spiral rod principle, for two different tasks:

• Steel Dryfast 6 — thin, mortar joint laid joint reinforcement rod. Surface, non-invasive; the wall’s appearance remains. Shear and bending reinforcement, crack filling.
• Steel Dryfast 8 / 10 / 12 — thicker, driven through-tie rod through the wall via test hole. Greater load, deeper intervention; installed with a chuck.

What is it suitable for?

Wall types: Hollow brick, adobe (raw earth), tuff, natural stone; modern brick and cement block masonry.

Typical tasks: Reinforced joint grouting. Re-tying cracked, separated wall parts. Strengthening damaged lintels and architraves. Limiting crack propagation. Seismic repair and shear reinforcement. Surface consolidation of visible wall surfaces without changing appearance.

Installation: Rout the joint about 2 cm deep, fill it 2/3 full with geo-mortar or mineral matrix, lay in the rod with manual pressure, then plaster over with the same material.

Not suitable: Without a structural plan. For through, drilled wall tying (for that, use Steel Dryfast 8 / 10 / 12). Alone, without bedding mortar or matrix.

Frequently asked questions

How can a cracked brick wall be reinforced without changing its appearance?
Thin stainless steel spiral rod, which you lay into the mortar joint. The Steel Dryfast 6 is placed about 2 cm deep into the routed joint, covered with geo-mortar — the wall’s appearance remains unchanged.

What is the difference between Steel Dryfast 6 and the thicker rods?
The 6 mm rod is a surface joint reinforcement rod laid into the mortar joint. The 8 / 10 / 12 mm rods are driven through a test hole through the wall — greater load, deeper intervention.

Is a chuck or drilling required?
No. The Steel Dryfast 6 is not drilled in: it is laid into the routed mortar joint with manual pressure, into a geo-mortar bed. A chuck is only needed for the thicker, through rods.

What mortar should be used for jointing?
With breathable structural geo-mortar or mineral matrix: Geocalce F Antisismico, Geolite, or Geolite Gel. Fill 2/3 of the joint, embed the rod, then plaster over with the same mortar.

AISI 304 or 316L — which is needed?
316L is required in chloride-exposed, humid, or chemically aggressive environments — molybdenum protects against pitting corrosion. In dry, indoor locations, 304 is also suitable.

Can the rod be cut to size?
Yes. It comes in 10 m coils; it can be cut to installation length on site with an angle grinder or metal shears.

Can it be connected to thicker rods?
Yes. With the Steel Dryfast 10 connector, Steel Dryfast 6 can be connected to Steel Dryfast 10 rods — joint reinforcement and through tying form a unified system.

Is it suitable for seismic reinforcement too?
Yes. It provides shear reinforcement along joints and limits crack propagation. With static design, it is part of the seismic strengthening system.

When is Steel Dryfast 6 NOT the solution?
If through, drilled wall tying is needed — use the thicker Steel Dryfast 8 / 10 / 12. Structural strengthening cannot be done without a static plan and on-site inspection.

Can I install it myself?
Technically simple — embed in the joint in a geo-mortar bed — but a structural intervention requiring a static calculation. We also offer installation; request a material + labor quote.
