Is there a crack running along the wall, or do the two wall parts move separately? The Kerakoll Steel Dryfast stainless steel spiral rod ties the two sides of the masonry together — without mortar or resin. The spiral geometry drills into the base like a large self-drilling screw after a test hole. Available in three diameters: 8, 10, 12 mm, depending on load and wall thickness.
Previously known as Kerakoll Steel DryFix (8 / 10 / 12). Part of the Structural repair and reinforcement collection — one of Kerakoll’s strongest product lines proven by structural design.
| Product family | Geosteel structural reinforcement system |
|---|---|
| Type | Spiral tying / connecting rod, dry installation system |
| Material | AISI 304/316L stainless steel (12 mm: AISI 316) |
| Diameters | 8, 10, 12 mm |
| Tensile strength (N) | ≥ 11.6 / 15.4 / 18.9 kN (8/10/12) |
| Shear strength (T) | ≥ 8.7 / 11.7 / 15.0 kN (8/10/12) |
| Packaging | Pre-cut strand (per piece) or 10 m coil (whole, uncut) |
| Standard / marking | EN 845-1, CE, EPD |
The three sizes are the same product with different load capacities. The choice is determined by the structural plan:
The difference is molybdenum. AISI 316L contains 2-3% molybdenum, 304 does not. Molybdenum protects against pitting corrosion in chloride-, phosphoric acid-, acetic acid-, and sulfuric acid-exposed environments.
Composition: AISI 304 = 18% chromium, 8% nickel. AISI 316L = 16% chromium, 10% nickel + 2-3% molybdenum. For structural reinforcement, the material grade is specified by the exposure class and structural plan. 8 and 10 mm are available in both AISI 304 and 316L; 12 mm only in AISI 316.
Wall types: Brick, adobe, tuff, wooden wall structures. Concrete — only depending on the strength of the supporting layer.
Typical tasks: Tying cracked, separated wall panels. Securing damaged lintels, tying arches from the inside. Fixing decorative natural stone, connecting wooden column heads. Stopping crack propagation, seismically reattaching detached wall pieces. Anti-peeling anchoring of facade cladding and infill walls.
Packaging and cutting: Pre-cut rods are sold individually in fixed lengths. The 10 m coil is delivered whole (uncut) — the customer cuts it to the installation length with an angle grinder or tin snips.
Not suitable: Without structural design; without a chuck; where the selected diameter’s load capacity is insufficient (choose a larger size).
How can a cracked wall be tied together?
With a stainless steel tying rod that bridges the crack and ties the two sides back together. The Steel Dryfast spiral rod, driven into a test hole, carves itself into the masonry — no adhesive or mortar is needed for fixing.
Which diameter is needed — 8, 10, or 12 mm?
The 8 mm is for finer, thinner-walled interventions. The 10 mm is the most common and the Glass Net CRM connector. The 12 mm has the highest load capacity for thick walls. The size is specified by the structural plan.
Why only AISI 316 for the 12 mm?
The 12 mm rod is available in a single steel grade, AISI 316. The 8 and 10 mm rods are available in AISI 304 or 316L options.
Is mortar or resin needed to fix the rod?
No. The spiral geometry provides adhesion, so it can be installed at any time. You fill the end of the hole afterward with geo-mortar for sealing.
Can the rod be cut to size?
Yes. The pre-cut rods have fixed lengths; the 10 m coil arrives whole and can be cut on-site to installation length with an angle grinder or tin snips.
What is the chuck for?
The appropriate Steel Dryfast chuck (8 or 10–12) holds the rod in the SDS Plus drill and drives it into the hole without rotation. Without a chuck, the rod cannot be installed — sold separately.
Is it also good for seismic reinforcement?
Yes. It ties back the delaminated, hollowed wall parts to the load-bearing structure. With structural design, it is part of the complete seismic system.
Can I install it myself?
Technically simple but structural intervention — requires a structural plan and on-site pull-out test. For reliable results, entrust it to a Kerakoll-trained professional.
When is Steel Dryfast NOT the solution?
If there is no structural plan or if you work without a chuck. For pure reinforced concrete structural reinforcement, the Geosteel plates and the GeoLite system are more suitable.
Steel Dryfast is the connecting rod of the Kerakoll Geosteel structural reinforcement system. The system works together:
Packaging: The pre-cut fibers are available in fixed lengths, ordered per piece. The 10 m roll is delivered whole (uncut); cut to the installation length on site using an angle grinder or sheet metal scissors.
Substrate preparation: Prepare the masonry according to the structural plan specifications. For through cracks, after inserting the rod, fill the damage with geo-mortar (GeoCalce G / GeoCalce F or Biocalce Pietra depending on the base layer).
Test drilling: A hole adjusted to the rod diameter and the material to be reinforced, drilled to the planned installation length.
Installation: The appropriate Steel Dryfast chuck (8 chuck or 10-12 chuck) is fitted into the SDS Plus drill, and the rod is driven into the hole without rotation. If needed, the rod can be bent, or the Insert dowel can be used.
Hole sealing: Seal the end of the hole with geo-mortar or mineral matrix (GeoLite, GeoLite Gel).
Inspection: Perform a pull-out test on site using the appropriate Steel Dryfast test kit. For adhesion values, contact the technical office.
