Is the old masonry cracking and moving in an earthquake-prone area? If you reinforce it with cement mortar, it traps moisture and cracks the old wall. The fine-grained NHL lime mortar embeds the reinforcing mesh. Lime-based, compatible with old brick walls — not rigid cement. This is Kerakoll Geocalce F Antisismico.

  • Embedding reinforcing mesh on the wall surface: fine-grained (0–1.4 mm) matrix mortar — fully saturates the mesh, without voids or air bubbles
  • Part of the system: the base structure of the Kerakoll seismic reinforcement system — with GeoSteel steel fabric, GeoSteel Grid, Geo Grid 120 or Rinforzo ARV 100 mesh
  • Lime-based, compatible with old brick walls: contains no cement — pure NHL lime, does not introduce rigid, incompatible cement into the historic structure
  • Old, moving masonry: low modulus of elasticity — moves together with the wall, does not crack
  • Certified structural performance: M15 (EN 998-2) + R1 repair mortar (EN 1504-3) — > 15 MPa compressive, > 5 MPa flexural strength
  • CE-marked system: certified with GeoSteel G600/G1200 steel fabric and GeoSteel Grid / Rinforzo ARV 100 mesh according to ETA
  • Manual and machine application: can also be applied with a plastering machine — as a diffuse or strip reinforcing coating
  • To be supplemented: the reinforcing mesh/fabric and surface plaster are separate products — not a complete reinforcement on their own
Type Fine-grained seismic geo-mortar (matrix)

What is it suitable for?

Masonry: Brick, stone, tuff, mixed masonry, and concrete structures — boundary walls and infills, indoors and outdoors. Structural reinforcement, earthquake-resistant repair and modification. Restoration of damaged masonry, replacement of missing wall sections.

Reinforcing meshes/fabrics (works with these): GeoSteel G600/G1200 galvanized steel fabric, GeoSteel Grid 200/400 basalt-rustproof mesh, Geo Grid 120 basalt fiber mesh, Rinforzo ARV 100 glass and aramid fiber mesh; Steel Dryfast stainless steel rod.

Not suitable for:

  • On existing plaster or smoothing layers
  • On contaminated, loose, dusty substrates
  • On old paint, salt deposits
  • On surfaces below +5 °C, above +35 °C, or frozen; in rain or strong sun
  • Not a complete system on its own — without reinforcing mesh/fabric and surface plaster

The Geocalce seismic reinforcement system

Geocalce F Antisismico is the base structure (matrix mortar) for the reinforcing mesh. The construction of diffuse or band reinforcement:

Layer Product Role
1. First matrix layer Geocalce F Antisismico — this product ≈ 3–5 mm, to accommodate the mesh
2. Reinforcing mesh/fabric GeoSteel / GeoSteel Grid / Geo Grid 120 / Rinforzo ARV 100 reinforcement providing load-bearing capacity
2b. Connectors (optional) Steel Dryfast rod + FL Antisismico injection structural connection
3. Cover matrix layer Geocalce F Antisismico ≈ 2–5 mm, full coverage of the mesh
4. Surface breathable plaster + fine plaster, then vapor-permeable paint smooth, protective surface — the wall remains vapor permeable

Which Geocalce Antisismico do you need?

  • Embedding mesh/fabric onto the wall surface (diffuse or band reinforcement): Geocalce F — this product, fine (0–1.4 mm)
  • Thick structural layer, welded rebar mesh, consolidation, lime concrete: Geocalce G — coarse (0–2.5 mm)
  • Injection of cracks and cavities, fixing GeoSteel connecting rods: Geocalce FL — liquid, injectable

Frequently Asked Questions

How can old masonry be reinforced against earthquakes while maintaining the wall's breathability?
Breathable lime with matrix mortar and reinforcing mesh. Geocalce F Antisismico is a fine NHL lime mortar into which you embed GeoSteel fabric or mesh — the wall becomes structurally stronger but remains breathable without cement.

What is matrix mortar (FRCM), and what is it for?
The matrix mortar is the layer that fixes the reinforcing mesh or fabric to the wall and fully covers it. In the FRCM (fiber-reinforced mineral matrix) system, Geocalce F provides the matrix, and the GeoSteel/Rinforzo mesh provides the load-bearing capacity.

Which mesh or fabric can it be used with?
With GeoSteel G600/G1200 steel fabric, GeoSteel Grid 200/400, Geo Grid 120, and Rinforzo ARV 100 mesh. Together with GeoSteel G600/G1200 and GeoSteel Grid / Rinforzo ARV 100, CE marked (ETA).

What do the M15 and R1 classes mean?
M15 is the EN 998-2 masonry mortar strength class (> 15 MPa compressive strength), and R1 is the EN 1504-3 concrete repair classification. Together: certified structural and repair performance, compatible with old masonry.

Geocalce F or G — which one do I need?
F is fine-grained (0–1.4 mm), for mesh embedding, thin diffuse or banded reinforcing coatings. Geocalce G is coarse (0–2.5 mm), for thicker structural layers, welded rebar mesh, and consolidation. Use F for mesh embedding, G for thick structural layers.

Can it be purchased separately?
Yes. If the reinforcement system is designed by a professional and you source the mesh, fabric, and connectors separately, Geocalce F can be purchased alone. For complete reinforcement, mesh/fabric and surface plaster are also required.

How much material is needed?
Material requirement ≈ 14 kg/m² per centimeter, maximum 15 mm per layer. The exact amount depends on the reinforcement system structure (base + top layer, mesh type).

When should I NOT use it?
Do not apply it over existing plaster, smoothing, dirty, dusty, or salty surfaces. Not as standalone reinforcement either — without reinforcing mesh/fabric and surface plaster, it is not a complete system. Do not work with it below +5 °C, above +35 °C, or on frozen surfaces.

Can I apply it myself?
The mortar can be applied by hand or machine. However, seismic reinforcement requires structural design and professional execution — sizing of the mesh, connectors, and layers. We also undertake complete installation.

Kerakoll Geocalce F Antisismico fine-grained seismic matrix mortar (M15)

PRODUCT ADVANTAGES

- Health and safety: The first breathable lime-based structural mortars with high vapor permeability. Used together with Kerakoll reinforcement systems, they increase the mechanical resistance of existing walls in order to improve the structural safety of the building.
- Low modulus of elasticity: Thanks to the use of NHL lime and geo binder, the Geocalce product range has a low modulus of elasticity, which creates a perfect balance with the typical strength characteristic of all types of masonry structures.
- Culture and tradition: The Geocalce product range respects and satisfies the needs of applications on buildings subject to historic restoration of environmental and architectural heritage and on traditional buildings.
- Bacteriostatic and fungistatic product (CSTB method)
