What is it suitable for?
Tiling (grouting and glass mosaic bonding):
Porcelain stoneware tiles in all sizes, slim tiles, ceramic tiles and clinker; glass and ceramic mosaics, natural stone and marble.
Spaces:
Interior and exterior — residential, commercial, industrial and urban planning projects; industrial kitchens, laboratories, the food industry, bathrooms, showers and high-traffic areas.
Water and chemical exposure:
Swimming pools and thermal baths, fountains, and pool surrounds; floor and wall coverings subject to continuous or occasional exposure to chemicals.
Extreme conditions:
Underfloor heating, significant temperature fluctuations, and surfaces exposed to frost; boat decks (CE MED approved).
Not suitable for: floors with porous surfaces; filling movement, expansion, or contraction joints (these require a flexible sealant — see Silicone Color); substrates that are not completely dry or are prone to moisture ingress; chemical exposure stronger than or different from that specified in the chemical resistance table.
Frequently asked questions
Which grout can withstand chemicals and water in an industrial kitchen or swimming pool?
Epoxy grout is required. Fugalite Color is a two-component epoxy grout: waterproof, non-absorbent, and resistant to acids, chlorinated pool water, and cleaning products. It is designed for industrial kitchens, laboratories, swimming pools, and food industry facilities.
What is the difference between epoxy grout and cement grout?
Epoxy grout does not absorb water, whereas cement grout does. Therefore, epoxy grout remains waterproof, chemically resistant, and stain-free, while cement grout absorbs moisture, becomes stained, and effloresces. Epoxy is the right choice for heavy chemical or hygiene-related exposure.
Which one do I need: Fugabella Color or Fugalite Color?
For everyday tiling, the Fugabella Color hybrid grout is the easier, faster choice. Fugalite Color is for areas subject to continuous exposure to water and chemicals: industrial kitchens, laboratories, swimming pools, and boats. Both are available in the same 50 Color Fill shades.
Can it be used in swimming pools and thermal water?
Yes. Fugalite Color is suitable for swimming pools, thermal baths, fountains, and pool surrounds. It is waterproof and chemically resistant, so it withstands chlorine in pool water and constant exposure to water.
Is it suitable for food industry environments?
Yes. It complies with the HACCP system and the EC food hygiene Regulation 852/2004. The seamless, disinfectable surface does not provide a habitat for bacteria (ISO 846:2019 A/B/C).
How should epoxy grout be cleaned after application?
While still wet, rinse with water diluted with Fuga-Wash additive — 1 measuring cap per 5 liters of water, using two buckets. Next-day residue can be removed with Fuga-Soap; hardened stains after 7 days can be removed with Fuga-Shock Eco.
How much material is needed?
As an adhesive, ≈ 2–4 kg/m². As grout, it depends on the tile size, layer thickness, and joint width — for example, ≈ 105 g/m² for 60×60 cm tiles with 2 mm joints. The exact figure is provided in the material consumption table.
How long until the grout is walkable and load-bearing?
The surface is walkable after ≈ 24 hours (+23 °C). It withstands mechanical loads after ≈ 3 days and achieves full chemical resistance after ≈ 7 days. The mixed material remains workable for ≥ 45 minutes.
When should I NOT use it?
Do not use it on porous flooring, substrates that are not dry or are prone to moisture ingress, or for filling movement or expansion joints. Movement joints require a flexible sealant, such as Silicone Color.
Can I apply it myself?
The manufacturer intended it for professionals. It can be applied skillfully on smaller areas, but epoxy grout requires more care than cement grout: it is two-component, requires an accurate 2 : 1 mixing ratio, has a ≥ 45-minute working time, and must be cleaned quickly. If the project involves a large area or an industrial environment, we can also provide installation services.
