Colored facade noble plaster that withstands weather? Dispersion noble plaster forms a film. The wall suffocates, the surface flakes. Pure silicate bonds to the plaster. It breathes (V1) and repels rainwater (W3). This is Kerakoll Biocalce Silicato Puro.

  • Facade that breathes yet is waterproof: pure potassium silicate — V1 vapor permeability and W3 low water absorption at the same time, balance according to the Kuenzle principle (DIN 18550)
  • Dispersion noble plaster suffocates the wall: here there is no synthetic resin film — the silicate chemically bonds to the plaster, does not flake or peel off
  • Insulated facade (dryvit) and new plaster: A2-s1,d0 fire resistance — non-combustible mineral surface on the insulation system
  • Weather-exposed facade: natural silicate and earth pigment color — UV-resistant, does not fade like organic paints
  • Moldy, humid facade: bactericidal and fungicidal effect (CSTB method) — naturally prevents deposits
  • Monument, historic city center: mineral, traditional surface — fits old walls, for conservation restoration
  • Selectable texture: 3 grain sizes — 1.0 / 1.2 / 1.5 mm, from fine to pronounced grainy surface
  • Part of the system: the noble plaster of the Biocalce silicate cycle — on Silicato Consolidante primer, in the complete breathable facade system
Type Exterior silicate noble plaster (finishing plaster)
Binder Pure potassium silicate (DIN 18363)
Grain size 1.0 / 1.2 / 1.5 mm
Performance V1 vapor permeability · W3 water resistance · A2-s1,d0 fire resistance
Material requirement 1.8 / 2.1 / 2.4 kg/m² · 25 kg ≈ 10–14 m²
Packaging Bucket 25 kg
Storage ≈ 6 months, protected from frost

What is it suitable for?

Substrates: Hydraulic binder mineral surfaces — new and renovated plasters, thermal insulation plaster systems (dryvit), mineral finishing plasters, as well as clay and old, breathable wall structures. Prepared with Silicato Consolidante primer.

Spaces: Exterior — facades, surfaces exposed to weather and external loads, insulated facades.

Function in the system: The colored noble plaster of the Biocalce silicate cycle (topcoat). Applied over the hardening primer, as a thick decorative surface.

Not suitable for:

  • On wet, unseasoned substrates
  • On dirty, loose, dusty surfaces
  • On old paint or decorative whitewash
  • On gypsum-based substrates
  • For walls exposed to capillary moisture — first a moisture-proof plaster (Zoccolatura / Benesserebio) is required

The Biocalce silicate system

Biocalce Silicato Puro is the colored noble plaster of the silicate cycle. The complete, breathable structure:

Layer Product Role
Base plaster Intonaco; for salty walls Zoccolatura / Benesserebio breathable plaster layer
1. Consolidating primer Silicato Consolidante substrate consolidation, 12 hours before the cycle
2. Leveling primer (if needed) Silicato Fondo Fino even moisture absorption on different substrates
3. Noble plaster Biocalce Silicato Puro (this product) colored, grainy finishing layer

Which silicate surface do I need?

  • Thick, grainy facade noble plaster: Biocalce Silicato Puro (1.0–1.5 mm) — this product
  • Thin silicate paint (smooth surface): Silicato Puro Pittura — for exterior and interior
  • Lime noble plaster, interior and exterior, monuments: Intonachino Colorato

Which grain size do I need?

  • Finer, denser texture: 1.0 mm — ≈ 1.8 kg/m²
  • Medium grain: 1.2 mm — ≈ 2.1 kg/m²
  • Coarse, rough grain: 1.5 mm — ≈ 2.4 kg/m²

Frequently asked questions

Which noble plaster withstands weather on facades and also breathes?
Pure silicate-based noble plaster. Dispersion noble plaster forms a film — the wall suffocates, the surface flakes. Silicate bonds to the plaster: it breathes (V1) yet is waterproof (W3).

What do the V1 and W3 classes mean?
V1 means high vapor permeability — the wall releases moisture. W3 means low water absorption — it does not absorb rain from outside. Together they keep the facade dry.

Can it be used on insulated facades (dryvit)?
Yes. A2-s1,d0 fire-resistant, non-combustible mineral surface. Suitable as a finishing plaster for thermal insulation systems and on new mineral plasters.

Is a primer needed under the silicate noble plaster?
Yes. Apply Silicato Consolidante to the substrate about 12 hours before the cycle. For uneven absorption, Silicato Fondo Fino evens it out.

Which grain size do I need?
The texture decides: 1.0 mm fine, 1.2 mm medium, 1.5 mm coarse. The coarser grain requires more material (1.8 / 2.1 / 2.4 kg/m²).

How much plaster is needed, how many m² does one bucket cover?
Depends on the grain size: 1.8 / 2.1 / 2.4 kg/m². A 25 kg bucket covers approximately 10–14 m².

Silicato Puro or Intonachino Colorato — which one do I need?
For weather-exposed facades, use silicate Silicato Puro — W3 water resistance, A2 fire resistance. For interiors and monuments, use lime Intonachino Colorato — finer grain, fungus and bacteria repellent. For interior painting, use Silicato Puro Pittura.

When should I not use it?
Do not apply on wet, salty, or rising damp walls without pretreatment. Not on gypsum substrates or old dispersion paints either. These require a different system.

Can I apply it myself?
The silicate cycle requires an exact layering and timing. Facade work demands scaffolding and practice. We are happy to carry out the entire system.

User manual

Substrate preparation: Sound, dry, compact, dust-free mineral surface. Old plaster must be well bonded; remove any residues from previous work. About 12 hours before the cycle, apply Silicato Consolidante consolidating primer; use Silicato Fondo Fino for surfaces with different absorbency.

Application: Use a stainless steel or stone trowel to apply at a thickness matching the grain size, then create the texture with a foam or plastic float. Depending on the substrate roughness, apply in 1 or 2 layers; allow at least 12 hours between layers.

Drying and curing: Full curing takes approximately 15 days. Protect the surface from water and rain during the first 3 days.

Temperature: +8 °C – +30 °C. Do not work in frost, direct sunlight, rain, or strong wind; cover scaffolding and shade the facade.

WHAT IS BIOCALCE?

Natural lime plasters and wall drying system

Natural hydraulic lime (NHL 3.5, EN 459-1) fired from pure, marly limestone at ~800–1000 °C without clay or cement. Breathable plasters compatible with old masonry, from primer to decorative plaster.

WHY LIME, NOT CEMENT?

The advantage of breathable NHL 3.5

The wall can dry because lime allows water vapor to pass through — much more openly than cement (μ ≈ 6 compared to cement’s ≈ 20), so moisture does not get trapped inside. It is salt-resistant, flexible, and does not damage the old wall when removed — making it the right material for old and historic walls. On its dry, alkaline surface, mold also finds it harder to settle.

WALL DRYING, WHERE NEEDED

For damp, saltpetre-affected walls

The WTA-certified, high porosity (≥ 40%) restoration plaster binds crystallizing salt in its pores and allows moisture to escape. It keeps the surface dry on damp, saltpetre-affected walls and plinths — permanently.
