Putty and fine smoothing compound are the layers that provide an aesthetically perfect surface between plaster and paint. Where plaster irregularities, hairline cracks, and surface texture would show under the paint, putty is the solution. It is not a strong, load-bearing layer — but a fine, smoothable filler.
Putty is a thin-layer smoothing compound applied to plaster, gypsum, and concrete in 0.5–3 mm thickness, then sanded to create a smooth surface. The binder of the putty determines its application area: gypsum-, cement-, and dispersion-based types are suitable for different substrates and uses.
Gypsum putty is used indoors in dry areas on plaster and drywall substrates. It dries quickly, is easy to sand, and smooths excellently. It cannot be used in wet rooms — gypsum loses its strength in moist environments.
Cement-based, moisture-resistant putty suitable for wet indoor areas (bathroom, kitchen) and outdoor use. It dries slower than gypsum but is more water- and vapor-resistant. Suitable as a base under paint and decorative coatings alike.
Flexible, crack-resistant, with medium moisture resistance. Especially suitable for repairing existing painted walls and creating an even surface — it adheres to old paint as well.
Whenever the finishing layer (paint, wallpaper, decorative putty) requires a perfectly smooth substrate. Rough plaster can be covered by fiberglass wallpaper or heavily pigmented paint, but decorative coatings, satin paint, and machine-applied wallpaper will fully reveal wall irregularities.
