What is it suitable for?
Substrates: Breathable lime and hydraulic lime plasters, well-preserved old plaster, existing marble-effect Venetian surfaces (for supplementation, restoration), window sills, wall pillars, decorative elements, and breathable interior surfaces of adobe walls. Gypsum, drywall, or synthetic paint surfaces after Biocalce Fondo Universale preparation.
Spaces: Indoor use only — living rooms, bedrooms, children’s rooms, interior walls not exposed to moisture.
Function in the system: The Biocalce system’s indoor decorative finishing layer — applied over surface-prepared plaster, creating a smooth, marble-effect decorative surface.
Not suitable for:
- For exterior, facade use
- On surfaces with permanent water exposure (shower, direct water contact)
- On dirty, loose, dusty substrates
- For walls exposed to capillary moisture — first a moisture-proofing plaster (Zoccolatura / Benesserebio) is required

Which marble-effect decorative plaster breathes indoors?
Pure lime-based decorative trowel. Dispersion decorative plaster forms a plastic film that traps moisture. Biocalce Spatolato is made from lime — a deep, smooth, breathable surface (V1).
What is the difference between Spatolato and Marmorino?
Spatolato is a thin, smooth marble-effect trowel, for indoor use only. Marmorino is a classic stucco, applied in thicker layers, for indoor and outdoor use. Use Spatolato for smooth indoor walls, Marmorino for classic stucco.
Is it suitable for outdoor and facade use?
No. Biocalce Spatolato is an indoor-only product. For facades, Marmorino is the right choice.
Is a primer needed under the decorative trowel?
Yes. Apply Biocalce Fondo Universale about 12 hours before troweling. The substrate must be sound, dry, and solid.
How does the surface get a deep, marble-like look?
Apply in thin layers with a stainless steel or soft PVC trowel. Smooth the last layer while drying to a glossy finish. This creates the dense Venetian effect.
How much material is needed, how many m² does it cover?
Material requirement ≈ 1.5 kg/m² per millimeter. The total build-up max. ≈ 1.5 mm. A 25 kg bucket covers about 11 m².
When should I not use it?
Do not apply it outdoors or on surfaces with prolonged water exposure (showers). Also avoid dirty, dusty, or rising damp walls. Different solutions are needed for these.
Is the surface washable and durable?
Yes, the hardened lime surface is hard and washable. It is made for living spaces — living rooms, bedrooms. However, it is not suitable for prolonged water exposure.
Can I apply it myself?
The marble-effect surface requires trowel technique and practice. We recommend creating a sample surface. We are happy to execute decorative surfaces.
