What is it suitable for?
Substrates: Breathable lime plasters and fine plasters — Intonaco, Intonachino Fino, restored plasters. Adobe walls and old, breathable wall structures. Gypsum, drywall, or synthetic paint surfaces only after Biocalce Fondo Universale preparation.
Areas: Exterior and interior — facades and interior walls where a colored, grainy, breathable surface is desired; monument restoration.
Function in the system: The Biocalce system’s colored finishing plaster (topcoat) — applied over lime plaster, after Biocalce Fondo primer.
Not suitable for:
- On damp, unset substrates
- On dirty, loose, dusty surfaces
- On old paint or limewash coating
- For walls exposed to capillary moisture — first a moisture-blocking plaster (Zoccolatura / Benesserebio) is required

Which colored decorative plaster breathes and does not mold?
Pure lime-based colored decorative plaster. Cement-based plaster traps moisture — causing blotches and mold. Biocalce Intonachino Colorato is made from lime and inhibits mold.
Is the colored decorative plaster breathable?
Yes. Class V1, Sd ≤ 0.018 m — the surface freely allows vapor to pass. The wall’s breathability is not interrupted by the finishing plaster.
Should I choose lime or silicate decorative plaster?
For interiors and monuments, lime — fine grain, repels fungi and bacteria. For facades exposed to harsh weather, the silicate Silicato Puro — W3 water resistance.
What tool should be used for application?
Only with stainless steel. Iron tools can leave rust stains on the light lime surface. Apply with a trowel and shape the texture with a damp sponge float.
Is a primer needed under the decorative plaster?
Yes. Biocalce Fondo is recommended for all surfaces. For gypsum or old paint, Biocalce Fondo Universale is mandatory.
How much material is needed, how many m² does one bucket cover?
By grain size: 1.4 / 1.7 / 2.5 kg/m². A 25 kg bucket covers approximately 18, 15, or 10 m² respectively.
Why did the surface become blotchy?
Natural lime discolors when dry due to the substrate and weather. Use the same batch on one surface and work continuously. First, prime with Biocalce Fondo.
When should I not use it?
Do not apply on damp, salty, or rising moisture walls without pretreatment. Not on old paint or lime plaster either. The substrate must be prepared first.
Can I apply it myself?
Can be applied with a trowel, but achieving an even granular surface requires practice. Use only stainless steel tools. We also execute the complete system.
