What is it suitable for?
Substrates: New breathable lime and hydraulic lime plasters, well-preserved old plaster, well-preserved old marble stucco (Venetian) for supplementation and restoration, window sills, wall pilasters, decorations, and breathable surfaces of adobe walls. On lime fine plaster (Intonachino Fino, Intonachino Granello). After preparation with gypsum, drywall, or synthetic paint Biocalce Fondo Universale.
Spaces: Exterior and interior — facades, living rooms, bedroom zones, representative interior walls where a deep, marble-like surface is desired.
Function in the system: The decorative finishing layer of the Biocalce system — applied on surface-prepared lime plaster, as a classic marble stucco finish.
Not suitable for:
- On damp, insufficiently cured substrates
- On dirty, loose, dusty surfaces
- On old paint or decorative whitewash
- For walls exposed to capillary moisture — first apply a moisture-proof plaster (Zoccolatura / Benesserebio) (Marmorino alone is not moisture-proof)
- For surfaces with permanent water exposure (shower, direct water contact)

Which decorative surface is needed?

Which marble stucco breathes and does not crack?
Pure lime-based marble stucco. Cement stucco traps moisture — it cracks and stains. Biocalce Marmorino is made from lime — a deep, marble-like, breathable surface (V1).
What is the difference between Marmorino and Spatolato?
Marmorino is a classic stucco, applied in thicker layers, for both interior and exterior. Spatolato is a thinner, smooth plaster, for interior use only. Use Marmorino for facades, Spatolato for smooth interior walls.
Is it suitable for facades too?
Yes, for both exterior and interior. Outdoors, it gives a patinated look to the new facade. Ideal for restoring historic city centers.
Is a primer needed under the marble stucco?
Yes. On old substrates, Biocalce Fondo is mandatory, on gypsum Biocalce Fondo Universale. The substrate must be sound, dry, and solid.
How to achieve a deep, marble-like shine on the surface?
In two layers, wet-on-wet, with a stainless steel trowel. The second layer is applied when the first no longer sticks. Smooth to a shine while drying.
How much material is needed, how many m² does one bucket cover?
Material requirement ≈ 1.7 kg/m² at 1.5 mm thickness. A 25 kg bucket covers ≈ 15 m². Maximum 1 mm per layer, total max 1.5 mm.
Is it good for wet walls or saltpetre baseboards?
Not by itself — Marmorino is a decorative finishing layer, not a moisture barrier. For rising damp, first apply Zoccolatura / Benesserebio. Then the decorative surface can be applied.
When should I not use it?
Do not apply on wet, salty walls without pretreatment. Not suitable for old paint or whitewash either. Not suitable for constant water exposure (shower).
Can I apply it myself?
The marble-finish stucco requires a wet layer technique and practice. We recommend creating a sample surface. We also execute decorative surfaces.
