What is it suitable for?
Substrates: Mineral surfaces with hydraulic binder — breathable lime and mineral plasters, fine plasters (Intonachino Fino), renovated plasters, as well as adobe and old, breathable wall structures. Prepared with Silicato Consolidante primer.
Spaces: Exterior and interior — facades and interior walls where a breathable, mineral painted surface is desired.
Function in the system: The Biocalce system silicate paint (4th layer) — on lime or mineral plaster, after priming.
Not suitable for:
- On damp, insufficiently cured substrates
- On dirty, loose, dusty surfaces
- On old paint or decorative whitewash
- On gypsum-based substrates
- For walls exposed to capillary moisture — first apply moisture-proof plaster (Zoccolatura / Benesserebio)

What paint withstands rain on the facade and also breathes?

What do V1 and W3 mean for the paint?
V1 has high vapor permeability — the wall releases moisture. W3 has low water absorption — it does not soak up rain. Together they keep the facade dry and breathable.
What is the difference between Silicato Puro Pittura and Tinteggio?
Silicate Pittura W3 is water-resistant — stronger facade protection. Tinteggio is pure lime, with a patinated effect and indoor focus. Use silicate for rainy facades, Tinteggio for traditional lime finish.
Is a primer needed under silicate paint?
Yes. Silicato Consolidante is applied to the substrate about 12 hours before painting. For uneven absorption, Silicato Fondo evens it out.
Is it good for indoor use too?
Yes, suitable for both exterior and interior. Indoors, it actively dilutes pollutants (JRC IAQ, A+). Thus, it contributes to healthy indoor air.
How much paint is needed, how many m² does it cover?
For two layers of paint ≈ 0.15–0.25 l/m². The 4-liter covers ≈ 20 m², the 14-liter ≈ 70 m². The exact amount depends on the substrate.
When should I not use it?
Do not paint on wet, salty, or rising damp walls without pretreatment. Also not on gypsum substrates or old dispersion paints. These require different preparation.
Can I paint it myself?
Yes — with a brush, in two layers, using crossed strokes. Facade work requires scaffolding and practice. We also execute the complete system.
